The Best Snowboard Goggles for Easy Lens Transitions

If you're shopping for snowboard or ski goggles then you have an incredible array of products and technology available to you. From anti-fogging coatings to AR heads-up displays, you can find just about anything you want on today's market. But for many people, the most important element (assuming they sufficiently product your eyes and you can see out of them) is the ability to interchange lenses, allowing you to pick the best colour, style or functionality for the day and weather. But lens transitions can be extremely annoying and fiddly, particularly when you're wearing gloves and a helmet.

To take the pain out of changing lenses, many brands have introduced quick transition functionality, meaning you can swap lenses in and out quickly and easily, even while wearing gloves. As you'd expect however, some goggles are better than others in this regard, and it can be difficult to know which is the best without trying a selection of them first. So to make your life easier, here are my top two picks for the best goggles for easy lens transitions:

Sky Optics Doom

The single button system on the Sky Optics 'fingerprint-free' goggles make swapping lenses incredibly quick and easy. Simply press the button to lock (or unlock) the lens and swap them out, and it's not only quick but it's hassle free and easy to do with thick gloves on. The Doom and Bravo goggles are particularly good, boasting lenses that enhance contrast and protect against UV-A and UV-B radiation. The Happy Lens that comes with the goggles also claim to protect against cataracts, reduce eyestrain and elevate mood, although to be honest I'm not sure how true this is. The Lock Steady lens-change system however is excellent, and the goggles are comfortable and give you a crystal clear view of the slopes. Highly recommended if interchangeable lenses are what you're after.

Oakley Airbrake

The Airbrake XL is my top choice for quick lens-changes, even though the system isn't quite as easy to use as the Sky Optics Lock Steady system. The Oakley goggles boast the Switchlock technology, with a lever on one side of the frame that you can lift, pull out the lens, replace it and then pull the lever back down. It's simple to operate, although a tiny bit fiddly compared to the Sky Optics system (particularly if you're wearing gloves). What makes these my top choice however is everything else you get with the Airbrake XL, or any other pair of Oakley snowboard goggles. They are not only comfortable and deliver extremely good visual clarity and peripheral vision, but they boast Oakley's amazing PRIZM lenses, which are without question the best lens available on the current market. There are six PRIZM options, all of which will adapt perfectly to changing light conditions. You can read more about PRIZM lens technology on the Oakley website.
